Come learn about the latest research and advice regarding aging and romance — debunking ageist myths that one’s romantic and sex life dwindles as we age! Believe it or not, more older adults are finding love than ever – even marriage – when they’re over age sixty-five. This lively, humorous and informative talk will touch on the emotional, physical, and social needs of older adults and why romantic and platonic (re)connections are essential for quality and quantity of life. The ethical issues related to social workers and other helping professionals advocating for clients’ rights to active and fulfilling sex lives will be discussed in multiple settings both in long term care facilities and beyond. Other co-morbid issues related to medication and medical factors and how this effects libido and connection will be discussed as well. Please join if you are interested in knowing the truth about romance and aging and how to advocate for you client’s connections no matter what their circumstances are.

Assumed to be automatic, innate, and often uncontrollable, emotions have become a critical part of our own inner truth. Come learn what neuroscience is saying to this assumption — it might surprise you.

Telomeres: How Diet and Exercise Impacts Genes and Vulnerability in Aging on June 11th

Telomeres are the ends of your chromosomal DNA and new research shows they may direct your personal trajectory of aging more than we know. Come learn the basic science of telomere growth and “death” and what impacts this. This training will be helpful to anyone, any age, as the earlier you start preventative measures, the longer you can stave off chronic physical and mental health disease states. You will come away from this training with a renewed understanding of lifestyle factors that you can control (or can’t) and how random factors such as mindfulness, hotdog intake, and your childhood neighborhood may impact this.
